Volavlje is a settlement in the hills to the east of the Ljubljana. It prides itself with its vast landscape of picturesque ridges and slopes, covered with both vineyards and pastures. Right on one of the hilltops lies this grandiose home, a true titanic amongst traditional homes. Each floor covers over 150 square meters and it includes 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and three kitchen areas with lots of living spaces that are crowed with magnificent views.
The House with a capital H. Once a home, now a one-woman permanent residency cries for a need for renovating and downsizing.
Atelier Abroad prepared a concept of floor division, where each floor represents its own rather sizeable apartment, appropriate for families. The three apartments work as three completely separate units; each having its own entrance, its own storage room, private garden, and two parking spaces.
An approach towards the land division had in mind the need to enable the occupants to have their own outdoors experiences completely undisturbed regardless of the neighbors’ activities.
In such a manner we divided the view into a good 270 degrees and split it three-ways. Barriers, being either greenery, height level and or actual walls, guarantee a three-fold summer picnic where no one knows the next doors guestlist. Unless they are friends, that is.
Demolishing the stairs to reach the highest level of the house turned out to ensure the best possible communication versus privacy section, whilst considering the most sensible solutions we decided not to demolish the connection between first two floors but rather mask it with functional furniture and create a lovely feature that gives an added value to each apartment.
