Centering on distinctive design strategies from different perspectives, AAB was invited to create office spaces that feature harmony in diversity and a philosophy of work.
The project is situated on the edge of Ljubljana’s city center, by Dunajska cesta, one of the highest traffic density roads in the capital. The goal was to create a pleasant working experience and to explore a possible future for unconventional and more productive environment.
Location: Ljubljana, SI
Area: 210 sqm
Project Year: 2018
Client: Directa Lte
At the entry level, the reception is covered with cork boards, featuring a green paravan wall and a unique urban waiting area.
In the rectangular space behind the reception, the floor is raised from the ground level for 40 cm underneath where all cable cords are elegantly stored. The cork deck, which forms a secondary structure, generates a three-dimensional relation between people on the deck and general hallways outside.
Based on people’s working behaviors, three basic functional areas were created within the space, including loud areas; the entrance and the small kitchen in the entry-level, semi-loud areas for leisure work and im-prompt-to meetings and the silent areas pushed to the corners of the space for private meetings and offices.
The main, semi-loud space creates a co-existing relationship between the artificial and the natural, the necessary and the exquisite, and the clear and the ambiguous. Though not a “comfortable” space in the traditional sense of the office, it provides people who are used to cozy urban life with unique sensory and physical experience and enables them to recapture the joy of living.
